Sarah Palin Is Wrong For America

John McCain's selection of Sarah Palin as his Vice Presidential running mate calls his judgment into serious question. It was clearly a purely political pick designed to appeal to the far right wing social conservatives that make up the GOP base and in a cynical attempt to appeal to female voters. It was clearly not a choice made for Governing. Obvously Sarah Palin was not the most qualified person McCain could have chosen for VP.

A Vice President should be qualified to step in and become President on a moment's notice. Can anyone really say they think Palin is ready to become President on a moment's notice? The thought is ludicrous. She does not have the experience necessary to be President. Just 2 years ago she was the part-time mayor of a town of 5,000 people! And some of those 5000 people have some not so nice things to say about Palin.

But more disturbing to me than her lack of experience is where she stands on the issues. Sarah Palin is a far right wing social conservative who would "turn back time" on all of our country's social progress.

• Palin has supported Pat Buchanan for President in the past.
• Palin has long belonged to an extremist right wing church whose pastor has said anyone who criticizes (or votes against) George W. Bush will be sent to hell.
• That pastor has also said (recently) that Jewish people deserve terrorist attacks.
• Palin is anti-choice even in cases of rape & incest.
• As mayor of her small town she tried to get books banned from the library and when the librarian didn't cooperate she tried to have her fired.
• Palin often uses the term "God's Will" when explaining her positions. For example she said that the Iraq War is "God's Will." Remind you of anyone (here's a hint: his name is George W. Bush.)
