New Theory On Dieting: The Day Off Diet
71The Day Off Diet is a new theory in dieting. This new theory says that you can actually lose more weight by not always following your diet, in fact it says you will be most successful by following their special dieting plan 6 days a week and taking one day "off" each week (most choose Saturday as their "day off.")
While this may sound counter-intiutive at first when you read more about it, it begins to make sense. There are three major reasons why the "day off" works.
- The weekly "calorie spike" of a day spent pigging out and eating whatever you want (yes literally whatever you want!) will keep your metaboblism from dropping into "starvation mode" and keeping you from losing weight long term. Other low calorie/low carb diets keep your calorie intake low all the time and your body actually adjusts to this with a slower metabolism making it harder for you to lose weight!
- By allowing yourself to have whatever you want once a week you kill the usual cravings that knock you off diets after a couple of weeks normally! Every week you get to have whatever it is you long for, whether it's pizza or chocolate chip cookies or ice cream! On other diets you aren't allowed any "treats" until you reach your goal weight (and for some people that could be over a year away!)
- Having a day off every week (again most choose Saturday) allows you to keep your social life going without a hitch while you dieting and losing weight! Think about it; You can still go out and eat & drink whatever you want on Saturday nights! You can still go to weddings and eat the wedding cake! You can still go to birthday parties! You can still live your life!
Of course it's important to point out that there's a lot more to the Day Off Diet than simply taking a day off each Saturday! You must follow the diet to a T on the other 6 days of the week. The good thing is that the diet is actually very easy to follow on those days as well because it requires no calorie counting and you are allowed to eat until you are satisfied at all times. The Day Off Diet is a very easy to follow diet.

I myself allso have a day off eating FULL STOP
i was 16 stone and went down to 12 stone i lost 4 stone and i had a strict diet 6 days a week and had a friday off to eat whatever i liked i exercised for 6 days but not on my day off and it worked for me it gives u a life to be able to go out and drink etc have fun instead of diet 24/7
I use this diet too, i lost 9 kgs in 5weeks. I would diet very strictly for 6 days but what motivates me is my excitment/anticipation for that 7th day feast. As a bonus i would usually feel guilty at the end of day 7 and that would also motivate me to excercise and diet hard the following 6 days towards my next feast day. Typically i change between a meal off on one week then the next would be a whole day off, and the next be a meal off and etc. Its worked great so far!!
Thanks for the points shared on your own blog. One more thing I would like to convey is that weight reduction is not information about going on a dietary fads and trying to lose as much weight as you can in a few days. The most effective way to shed weight is by using it slowly and gradually and using some basic guidelines which can allow you to make the most from your attempt to lose fat. You may understand and be following many of these tips, yet reinforcing know-how never hurts.

The day-off diet has worked for me! 4 years ago I lost over 10 stone following The Weight Watchers programme and reduced my dress size from 24-26 to a size 10-12! It took me 12 months in total to lose all the weight, but I couldn't have done it without taking a day off from the diet each week. You don't feel completely restricted and have something to look forward to each week, which makes eating healthily for the other 6 days extemely tolerable. I would recommend this as a really useful tip for long-term weightloss. I feel great now and have never looked better.
